Exceptional service

" Ryan and Luke fitted our boiler they were prompt did a great job, cleaned up after themselves each day, nothing is too much trouble for them. They are so respectful of clients and property. One of the main things I really appreciated was the fact that being a woman on my own I was always at ease with them and was never made to feel uncomfortable. You have got a brilliant reputation Ryan, so keep up the good work and many thanks again "

Our top tips on saving energy in your home

It pays to be prepared - switch on your boiler before winter (we recommend at the end of September or beginning of October). It'll only take 5 minutes for your boiler to warm up, and you'll be able to check for any issues before the colder months when you really need your heating on.

A lot of people underestimate the impact this can have on your home's boiler price and general energy bills. For each degree you cut the thermostat, expect to cut bills by 4%-ish, or about £100 a year on average for a typical home.

So you might upset some of the people that live in your house, but the World Health Organisation says that 18 degrees is enough for healthy adults, with slightly higher temperatures needed for the very old or young. Throw a jumper on and save yourself some serious money.

If you've ever been apart of the common debate about whether it's cheaper to leave the heating on low all day, rather than just turning it on when you need it, the Energy Saving Trust recommends you should only have your heating on when required – so there's your answer to that one too.

A great way to cut down water bills for those who use a water meter is by reducing your water usage. As well as saving you money you'll also be helping the environment, and reducing energy costs too, as when you use less water, you usually heat less water.

If you love a hot, long shower and don't want to change this part of your routine the best thing you can do is invest in a water-saving shower head, it's the easiest way to save water and still enjoy a lengthy, steamy shower.

By using a water-saving shower head for a typical family, you can make a 2%-ish saving, or about £50 a year on average for a typical home.

And if you're not on a water meter, you can get one fitted for free in England and Wales. Some – especially in homes with fewer residents than bedrooms – can save large.

Keep on the look out for window and door draughts - decent draught-proofing can cut 2% off energy bills, about £50 a year on average for a typical home.

We know we said earlier that you don't have to cut your shower time if you invest in a water-saving shower head, but if you don't invest in one of these the next best thing is to reduce your time spent showering. Cutting just 1 minute off your shower time could save £207 a year in energy bills, and a further £105 a year in water bills if you have a meter – £312 a year for an average four-person household.

Buy a shower timer, set a timer on your phone or do it the old fashioned way and wait for someone in your home to bang on the door and tell you your time is up, the choice is yours, but sacrificing 1 minute of your shower time is certainly worth it to lower your energy bills.

Don't leave your devices on standby, be sure to switch these off instead as you don't want to be using energy for something you're not making use of.

The Energy Saving Trust says you can save £28 a year by switching devices off standby.

Radiator thermostats are extremely useful, as they allow you to set the temperature of each individual room in your home (other than where your main thermostat is). There's not point heating up the whole house when you're only spending time in one room for the day. When the temperature in that room rises above what's set on the radiator valve, it will stop water flowing through that particular radiator – the boiler will still be on to heat other rooms, but it will use less energy.

By using a radiator thermostat you could save almost 6%, so about £150 a year on average for a typical home, although an initial outlay is needed.

Many appliances have modes which make them operate at different speeds, temperatures and levels of power. Often, they have an 'eco' mode, which is marketed as being more environmentally friendly.

For most appliances, 'eco' mode means operating at a lower speed, and often, heat. Using these modes will use less energy, in some cases even less than washing on a short cycle, and therefore will save you money on your energy bills.

If you can use your microwave instead of the oven to cook certain foods, do. They use less energy than ovens because they only heat the food, not the air around it.

Another way to lower your energy bills is to avoid using the tumble dryer where possible, as it uses a lot of energy. The Energy Saving Trust reckons you could save £117 a year if you never use it.

A lot of people are against getting their boilers serviced regularly due to the cost of the service and they often believe it to be a waste of time and money - this could not be further from the truth.

As part of your servicing, your engineer will carry out all necessary checks to ensure that your boiler is running efficiently, which can actually save you money over time. By improving your boiler’s efficiency your boiler will use less energy to run, and will subsequently keep your energy bills low. A boiler service is cheaper than replacing your boiler!
