Supporting the local council with commercial boiler installation achieving 94% heating efficiency

We were commissioned to carry out a full mechanical refurbishment of a historic council building, with a particular focus on upgrading the heating and plumbing systems. The goal was to preserve the traditional look and feel of the building while introducing modern, energy-efficient systems, and a commercial boiler installation that could meet the needs of councillors and staff. 

A new commercial boiler installation

Ecotech Yorkshire completed a full decommission and removal of the outdated heating system, followed by first and second fix installations to align with the build schedule. A custom heating design was developed to match the building's heritage architecture while delivering optimal heat output for each room.

Central heating upgrade for the council & plumbing fitouts

A new heating system was installed using high-efficiency Worcester boilers, offering independent temperature control in each room for maximum comfort and energy efficiency.

As well as this, we also helped with a complete hot and cold water supply installed throughout the building, and new facilities included a kitchen, cleaners’ washroom, and upgraded toilet facilities. Special focus was given to the compact shared/disabled toilet areas to ensure full accessibility compliance.

Key challenges and how we overcame them

Working within the constraints of an older structure presented challenges, particularly around preserving the building's fabric. Our innovative heating system design balanced efficiency with sensitivity to the property's original features. Timing was also critical, and the project was delivered in line with the client’s schedule.

Custom comfort for every room

Our client now has improved heating comfort with room-by-room temperature control, and they have been able to significantly enhance their energy efficiency; where their old system operated at ~70% efficiency, the new Worcester system reaches 94%. This council building now also has modernised plumbing infrastructure for increased reliability and compliance overall.
