Ecotech Yorkshire partnered with Freightliner Group Ltd to deliver heat pump office building support, providing a complete air conditioning fit-out for their newly refurbished 8,000 sq. ft. training academy, situated in the heart of the Frenchgate Shopping Centre. The client required a modern, efficient HVAC solution that could support operations without disrupting the academy’s activities or the shopping centre environment.
We firstly started by installing the latest Mitsubishi Electric VRF City Multi heat pumps into their office buildings (67kW total output), delivering zoned, energy-efficient climate control across the large open-plan space.
As part of this project, we integrated BC Controller for independent control of all 13 indoor units, which included a combination of wall-mounted and ceiling cassette types, all with remote access for ease of use and energy management. As part of the supplementary plumbing works, we installed a wash basin for the newly created on-site health check room too.
The academy had to remain fully operational during installation. We meticulously scheduled works and coordinated deliveries to ensure minimal disruption. A major logistical challenge involved transporting the 450kg external office building heat pump units to the shopping centre roof without using cranes. This was achieved by disassembling the units, manually transporting them to the roof, and then rebuilding them on-site, an effort that showcased our resourcefulness and commitment to our client's requirements.
Freightliner Group Ltd now has a remote-controlled, zoned air conditioning system which significantly reduces energy use and running costs. We’ve also helped them transition from a fixed ducted system to a flexible, room-by-room approach. When you look at the numbers, their COP (Coefficient of Performance) of 3.6, for every 1kW of input, 3.6kW of heat output has now been achieved, marking a significant gain in efficiency too.
